Nicholson Farm Spring News 2013

Well folks it’s time for a bit of Nicholson News !!

After a very long winter which seemed to start about 8 months ago there`s a definite hint of spring here at Nicholson.  We’re getting Mayday and Whitsun enquiries and bookings so I guess our very welcome visitors are feeling optimistic for a great sunny summer for a change, I know the farm could do with one too.

The farm is busy as always, we`ve had around 10 calves in the last few days which are all doing well, milk production is struggling a bit due to the poor quality feed we made last year again down to bad weather and a very light maize crop.  However we mustn’t moan and try and remain optimistic for a better year to come.  The bantams are laying everywhere so I’m sure there will be a few chicks to see come Easter and to add to all the new life at Nicholson we have been blessed with a Grandson called Oscar.

The Rooks have returned to the copse below the campsite and are frantically rebuilding their winter storm damaged nests; they use the same ones year after year.  The Canada Geese are also back on the Lake and the sight and sound of them all flying over in the early morning is always a lovely sign of warmer days to come.  We also see the Red Kites more and more often which I will never tire of.

I hope to tweak a few things on the play area, including moving the pipe slide to a new slightly lower trajectory.  I was always aware of a few of our more adventurous little would be `Spidermen` climbing up the outside of it rather than using it the way I’d intended, so hopefully it will be more fun for all our lovely visitors.  I also plan to get the water slide going again on warm weekends.

I`m told the Roach are starting to feed down in the lake and we hope for some big specimens being caught this year and there are six swanky new fishing platforms to help our keen fishermen.  I`ve got a big store of nice dry wood ready to warm folks up and the fire baskets. Karen is about to give the Shower block a lick of new paint and I need to fire up the mower and cut the lawns very soon.

We have wifi available to guests and are Tweeting and Facebooking if anyone wants to follow us.

So folks if you`d like a weekend on a Farm with the chance to get close to our wonderful wildlife or accompany me on my (I hope) informative farm walks, have a great steak in the cosy Kings Head pub just down the road we`d love to welcome you to Nicholson Farm.....
